What is AASECT?

What is AASECT? According to their website, www.aasect.org, “The American Association of Sexuality Educators, Counselors and Therapists (AASECT) provides training, community and visibility to promote the understanding of human sexuality and healthy sexual behavior.” As a therapist and as a parent, the subjects of sexuality and sexual behavior have come up repeatedly. Graduate school did not adequately prepare me for the types of sexual related issues I would encounter as a professional or as a parent. Recovering substance abuse patients that were fearful of what sex would be like without the use of a substance and parents trying to understand their LGBTQ child were just a few I have encountered. AASECT has been an amazing resource to learn more about the different types of sexual issues human beings of all ages experience as well as finding other professionals that are interested in providing up to date, accurate information to their patients.
